Davy Jones' Locker Fun Facts

The Secret Life of Slugger Ryan
Loading image BIL BAIRD provided the voice for SLUGGER RYAN when SLUGGER debuted on CBS-TV in 1950 in "Life with Snarky Parker," a marionette show with SLUGGER acting as a wry observer at the open and close of each show. Why he never got up from his piano is a secret -- and will remain so.

Director/Producer JOE JACOBY was a big fan of the show back then, not knowing that years later he would become the voice of SLUGGER.

For those of us old enough to remember, SLUGGER used to smoke. Because smoking is very bad for you, SLUGGER'S contract will not allow him to smoke on the set -- a habit he's kicked altogether. You'll notice that ever since he stopped smoking, he's developed color. WOW!

The voices made me do it
Loading image Live puppet shows almost always have the puppeteers providing the voices for their characters. The filmed shows of Children's Video Theater® however, sometimes use different actors to provide the voices. Like animation, the voices are recorded long before principal photography begins. This is also true of the songs. The puppeteers later manipulate their puppets in synchronization with the pre-recorded voices. This process is known in filmmaking as "playback." Sound effects and other background voices are added later.
Don't judge a book by its two-step

Long time no "SEA"
Loading image CAPTAIN BARNACLE from DAVY JONES' LOCKER is actually the twin brother of THE CHIEF THIEF from CHILDREN'S VIDEO THEATER'S upcoming production of
ALI BABA & the 40 THIEVES. They have not seen each other in years (seems like larceny runs in the family). Word has it they just don't like each other.
